Rhino 3D Object

This project was very interesting i had some difficulty putting stuff together in rhino previously and it helped me out because i had to find a solution for a rather challenging object. Which has lead to my most recent set of 3D objects which will have a very unique affect because of the amount of them and how much of a challenge they will be to mass produce. So based on that i also went through a lot of tape when putting together these objects which was quite an interesting obstacle which i did not think i would have encountered. So the next solution is going to be glue and actual interlocking pieces to create an over all piece wgich should be fun because then i get to build a set of my own lego in essence. I also have a very interesting tendency to not be as good with the computer programs and as a result most of the issues im having are not the hands on stuff but rather the computer programs and software involved in these projects. I always feel a bit more old school because i have a tendency to prefer more traditional art practice in a modernizing world. However in this instance i also think it makes me a little more creative.

Rhino 3D shapes and corresponding nets

Rhino was a interesting program as i have used commands previously whether gaming or anything else i have the ability to commit a lot of this information to memory very easily which made this program very accessible. I think that in the future i really want to explore and see what more i can do with a bit more self or teacher instruction. The other very unique thing that i found with rhino is there's so many ways to approach different situations and it becomes very easy to experiment with little to no knowledge previous. Very much like the program and had fun with this assignment although it took a little bit of use to get acquainted with the program.

Paper Craft Research

I have selected Nahoko Kojima

The idea of paper craft is very unique as the functionality of paper tends to be in regards to drawing, painting, design, advertisement etc. I think that the usage of paper to create an artwork has a certain irony behind it and creating a sculpture only adds a level of ironic involvement. However speaking to paper craft as a medium as well as a type of art I find it quite incredible as I have personally already taken an interest to it previous to this assignment.

As her work stands it looks phenomenal the intricacy and depth from a single sheet of paper or even layered ones with geometric based shapes creates an interlay of patterning that flows and moves creating a very unique piece. This practice of shaping objects, animals, textures, and other natural phenomenon with a sheet of paper allows the shapes to become whatever texture she chooses based on the awareness of positive and negative space.

The approach to the Cloud Leopard would be in my own opinion something that is born out of a different awareness to the space that we typically assume is involved with paper and that is two-dimensional. The other unique part about this particular piece is that it has been attached with a clear plastic string to suspend it as well as hold it together properly. This usage of material creates is very minimalist which allows the preservation of form for the work. The other part of displaying a piece of paper with a third dimension is the lighting that can be altered and changed depending on the affects you may want.
The other factor that is included in this artwork is the origin of the artist and the fact that paper craft has existed for a large period of time within the eastern part of the world. This fact eludes to a cultural harmony between a specific artwork and the affect it can have upon people. It is apparent that this is what she would enjoy spreading to our western culture is the intricacy and history that is paper craft within japans society. The idea behind her sculpture is that it “is not static, it is not just about one moment in time” It is to allow “change and augmentation.”

I have a deep interest in paper craft and zentangles not only because of the fact that they permeate a lot of western society at the moment. I actually enjoy it because of the amount of detail and form that you can create from a piece of paper and the level of intricacy you can create solely from creating geometric patterning and design. Nahoko Kojima’s work inspires me because it resembles my zentangle artwork in regards to its affect and play upon space. It also inspires me because I had not considered ever taking zentangles and actually making them three-dimensional. The fact that she uses the form of paper to create intricately carved out sculptures only defined by the space between the black and the background of the sculpture is beautiful. the other part is the usage of overlaying pieces to create a unique piece really draws me towards this style of artwork. I have thoroughly enjoyed spending hundreds of hours working with ink upon paper and also cutting it apart to allow the space to become the design. This is the very reason I choose these pieces because they are relatable and also made me think about what i could do if i ever choose to do more with this particular type of work.

Geometric Patterns

This project within illustrator was quite cool the idea behind creating patterns just with a few tools was a challenge. This project and purpose was to create a sheet of different geometric patterns that could be simple or complicated and the idea behind this was to learn the tools of illustrator. This project was also to create patterning that could be repeated or replicated however i choose very much not to do this. The only reason i really wasn't getting along with this project was that i could not actually manage to use it properly or the way i was hoping to. I have a tendency to be a little old school and in my case i would have very much preferred to actually take ink pens or pencils and do this by hand and take far more time doing this project.

The other issue i had was this week the school had to be closed for the weekend of thanksgiving which threw a whole bunch of  wrenches in finishing this project on time. Yes this is an excuse and much to my annoyance with myself i did not properly manage my time to spend it at school. But there where a lot of larger factors that lead to not completing this project on time. However i managed to finish this during school on a day last week which was very nice because it took way longer than expected. I also have difficulty manage school by myself but i believe im slowly getting the hang of it so in this instance it was a good lesson.

Anatomical Heart Lamp

There were a lot of interesting ideas included in the analysis of my objects as they were not thoroughly developed. This actually helped me to get a lot more feedback on my project. In regards to my groups influence on the designs created, I choose completely different for my project which was a lamp that was based  on biological shapes which also influenced the design. They did However influence the general progression in developing it as the request was to actually complete the lamp with a shade and stand that fit with the organic origins.
The lamp shade is actually made to be melted and deformed which i thought was a unique design in regards to the aspects of it being much more Victorian and a much older design style. This is a clarinet stand however i found the shape to be very unorthodox and again quite unique however i needed something more organic so when in mesh mixer i just added some extra designs that formed a much more organic and flowing shape to match the original lamp. This was a cellular lamp on thingiverse and i was very interested in the form of this object and how to create something like this and it also allowed me to create the supporting pieces for the lamp shade
The heart that i found for this was actually hollow and also it was clear and see through which for whatever reason made me think of a light bulb which prompted me to add it inside of the cellular lamp that was on thingiverse which resulted in a cage like appearance and i really thought this was uniquer for a lamp design

Appropriating objects and designs is a very interesting concept in today’s age,  as artists pushing boundaries to their limits and beyond those boundaries is almost an expectation. I think that it’s interesting, copyright laws exist because of artists which is quite ironic in its own peculiar way. so when we actually do something involving it for a project in combining shapes, objects and 3D designs the most unique things come out of the amalgamation. In this case the project involved two or more designs and in my case it was five with a little creation and improvisation. Creating a body of work solely with either work is quite unique and very much unheard of today. The idea of purposefully creating with no intention of really allowing another creator to gain anything other than a small participation in a design is very interesting. The other consideration is that when you allow people to collaborate there are thousands of ideas that present themselves but always with a tint of personality and self-involvement which alters them until perfected or discarded. This works exactly like the objects when they function together, or in certain cases create interesting juxtaposition. The way that people view derivative projects is also very unique as the reaction is determined exactly the same way as collaboration. Having two objects that may never have made sense create something new is a very cool effect and I think all of this is important when remixing, creating and combining.
